Operation Write Home - Spring Bloghop 2010!

Hi Hoppers! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I am honored to be a part of this 3rd bloghop for Operation Write Home. I have been involved with OWH for almost two years now, first as a cardmaker, then for a year as a shipper, and now back to being a cardmaker again! It is a great organization and I really encourage everyone to visit the website, there is a wealth of information available for you to browse and learn more!

The "mission" for this bloghop was to create a springy, thinking of you card. Being a bit of a rebel, I didn't do it. LOL! I actually created two cards, and really neither of them are springy or thinking of you-ey. But I liked them, and both themes fit really well for the types of cards that OWH is looking for.

Without further ado...

This fun little card was made using a JoAnn's $1 bin stamp, some assorted papers from my stash, some Prima flowers with Liquid Pearl centers (Thanks Diane!) and my Stampin Up Big Shot Top Note Die.

I wanted to feature this card as a reminder to think of our military kids! When I was a shipper, one of the top requests I would get was for cards for the men & women to send home to their kids. I thought this would make a cute card for that purpose - HA! Thinking of You!!!! LOL!

OK, so butterflies are springy, right? HA! This card was made using some found paper, but best of all - I used some OLD rub-ons that I found in my stash. I have NO idea where they came from, but I really loved the butterfly - just goes to show that sometimes found objects can make the neatest cards! There is nothing fancy about this card, just thought it came together really nicely and that someone would love opening their mail and finding this on a beautiful spring day!

I'm so honored that I can be a part of this wonderful organization, and watching it grow has been an enormous joy.

I will be choosing two random commenters to get a little care package/blog candy from me. However - there's a catch! I want to inspire you to find something in your own stash to use to make an OWH card. Preferably something old that you never thought you'd use, or maybe even landed in a giveaway pile. Type in your comment what this item is, and you will be entered to win! Spring cleaning! HA! Another spring reference. Enjoy the search for something fun and forgotten to use, and let Operation Write Home be the benefit of your spring cleaning!

OK, so enough yammering here....let's move on to the next blog!

Megan has a great story on her blog honoring her brother, and you can learn more about why she joined up with OWH! She has a FABULOUS Shabby Chic style, and I just love the cards she created for the blog hop! Check her out here:

If you get lost on the bloghop, visit the Operation Write Home website to find your way! Happy Hopping, Happy Spring Cleaning, and thanks for stopping by!

Hello Fabre and happy blog hopping to you! I love your cards - especially that gorgeous butterfly! And JoAnn's dollar stamps are the bomb-diggity! I hope to dig into my box of JoAnn's dollar stamps myself and see what I can use to make some cute spring cards too. Thanks for the inspiration!

Marcy is right- you do rock! And glad you put the flowers to good use-- I am in awe of your skill-- and speed with the copics! you may convert me from a pencil colorer!!!
You are a rebel- but the cards work!!! Finding more in my stash-- everything old is new again!!! And I love the hop-- but it took me forever to get to you--- and I am not even close to the end! yeah-- lots of creative inpsiration-loving today!!!!! see you in April for another day of trash to treasure!

Tami Bayer said...

I don't think my card for the hop is particularly spring-y either, but it made me happy to make it. It would be a huge challenge for me to use up some stickers for cards. It's not easy for me to use stickers, so I'm taking your challenge today :)

Fabre, your cards are great. I have some paper scraps that have just been sitting in a bin under a bed that I think I could use to make some cards for OWH.

I love the $1 stamps at JoAnn and Michaels. It's amazing how much I can spend on $1 stuff!

I've got tons of buttons, but I've never used them on cards (I'm a sewer too). I'll have to try them tonight!

Great cards and finding jewels in your stash is always fun! I was Spring Cleaning even as I read your blog. The background paper is years old and the stickers are so old, I didn't know if they would stick. And it is a kids card, not my specialty but FOR the troops!

As a military spouse and someone new to OWH, I thank you for taking part in this awesome blog hop and in OWH!

What awesome projects on your blog! My daughter is a soldier, so after I started to make cards for her unit in Iraq, I found OWH & here we are today! I also make cards for a local veterans nursing home. We can't ever do enough for our soldiers, so I use anything that's not nailed down in my cards. I save the little corrugated cardboard out of lightbulb boxes to add texture, I make dollhouse miniatures & am always raiding that stuff to use. Nothing gets thrown away until I determine it real trash! lol

Fabre,
Thanks for sharing your lovely cards. I love your butterfly.
I have a lot of paper stashes and ribbons that I should clear up before I buy new stuff. Thanks for the challenge!

Fabre... glad to see you had time to get some cards made in addition to everything else you do. Your butterfly card is truly stunning. My stash... I'm working my way through cast off paper... I have a stack of paper about 6 feet tall about half of which came from others who were discarding paper they thought they wouldn't use. I've had a great time with the hop and am glad to be particiapting again this go round.

I love the feeling of spring cleaning- I have tons of paper that I am trying to use up. I had to forbid myself to buy anymore until I work through my stash. It is great to see the stack getting smaller and smaller!

I've got so much stuff stashed away that I don't know what I'll use! But I'll think of something... :)

Ok, I accept your challenge - I have a whole thing full of fibers that I just had to have and have maybe only used one piece! I vow to use some of them this week to make cards for OWH, Mother's Day to be exact so I get it done this week. Thanks.

Rufus said...

Thanks Fabre for your year as a shipper! I can't even begin to imagine the effort that is! I'll take you up on your challenge. Not sure what I'll use, but heaven knows there is enough in the stash! I've made some kids cards, even had some kids make some in my monthly make cards for OWH party. (they are so cute!) There is still some space in my latest box to OWH, can't send a box that's not FULL! Thanks to OWH and you for all you do for our Heroes!

I found something to use on a card! This pretty blue feather has been languishing in my 'miscellaneous embellishments' box for a decade... it was such pretty colours that I couldn't throw it out, but I couldn't think of how to use it. Now it has a home of it's own...

I think you have challenged me to use those funky ceramic words I see everytime I open that drawer.... thank you!!

Carolyn Bounds said...

Both of your cards are AWESOME!!! I will get to work on some cards for our heroes' children:o) And it is funny that you should mention digging out those neglected items that have not seen ink or love in quite some time...I found myself doing that last night as I was making my rounds on this wonderful hop. I found a few goodies...mostly stamps... that I will be making some OWH cards with:o) Thank you for all that you do and for being such an inspiration to so many of us!!! You are a gem!!!

Big HUGS!!!
